English is Fun
How to learn English: 2 easy steps! Share and use it!
I. Vocabulary
You can learn 300 new words in a month, spending just 15 minutes per day:
1. Open www.lingualeobr.com. You can register or login with facebook.
2. Find favorite movies, songs, books or jokes - whatever you like.
3. Click on 10 new words (you'll see the translation), which you can add to your online dictionary.
4. Choose games to memorize these words, and learn English playing.
Note: It's in Portuguese. For other languages use www.fb.me/NdEEKijv.
II. Speaking
Don't forget why you are learning English - to communicate. If you live in an English-speaking country, pay attention to the English conversations around you. If you don’t have contact with native English speakers, you can use a facebook application to contact people:
1. Open https://apps.facebook.com/speak-in/
2. Select the language you want to learn and your native language.
3. Click on "Select Levels/Topics", and choose what you want.
4. Click on "Learn Together", and start speaking.
5. Also you can click on "Language Exchange" to communicate with native speakers.
It's easy! Good luck!

Hi everyone,
To those we might think picture publishing is boring, and always the same, I could respond:
- the caption or the text shows you true American
- compare to what you would have said: same words? if not, you can learn and improve your language
- the subjects chosen and published on the Internet show you the culture, what subjects Americans like (Americans are natural while the French are ill at easr and uptight)
- etc.

This is really weird!
According to my Oxford (Brit) dictionary:
--- practice US, practise GB (in disagreement with the pic)
Would the dictionary be wrong?
Very confusing!
According to my dictionary:
- practice is the spelling of the noun (US & GB)
- to practice is the spelling of the verb in GB (contradiction with another article in the same dictionary)
Response:

In the US, you can use practice for noun and verb. In the UK, you must use practice for the noun, and practise for the verb. For example:
- Shall I practice my handwriting? () ()
- Practice makes perfect. () ()
Some in the US are now following the UK convention. So:
- Shall I practise my handwriting? () ()

A LITTLE TRICK TO SPOT PRACTICE
Try using the word preparation (or lessons) instead of practice. If the sentence still makes sense, then practice is almost certainly correct.
(This trick works because practice is a noun, just like the words preparation and lessons.)
A LITTLE TRICK TO SPOT PRACTISE
Try using the verb to prepare(in its various forms, e.g., preparing, prepared, prepares) instead of practise. If the sentence still makes sense, then practise is almost certainly correct. However, if you find yourself trying to use preparation, then you should be using practice, because both are nouns.
(This trick works because to practise is a verb, just like to prepare. )
NO CONFUSION
There should be no confusion with practising or practised. These are always verbs.
PRACTICE IN AMERICA
Whilst many in the US have adopted practise as the verb and practice as the noun, it is acceptable to use practice for both noun and verb in American English.
I must keep practising/practicing that accent.
(both versions acceptable in American English)

Re: Internet English Resources on EnglishIsFun (Facebook)
Hi Muriel,
Do you think "goose" has got a bigger place in the English vocabulary, compared with the French vocabulary?
Did you see all of the English words and expressions around "goose"?
In French, "oie" has only one meaning and we only have -as far as I know- "oie blanche" and "pas de l'oie".
In English, there are many compound words and expressions. The word "goose" itself has got several meanings.
We can find surprising things under gooseberry bushes...

Re: Internet English Resources on EnglishIsFun (Facebook)
No problem Muriel. Gooseberries are often forgotten in the berry family.
Could you take a look at the compounds and expressions with "goose"? Did you know most of them?
As you will see, there are several common expressions in the list, that have nothing to do with "oie" in French.
