Bruno Bettelheim fairy tale psychoanalysis
Bruno Bettelheim was one of the great child psychologists of the twentieth century and perhaps none of his books has been more influential than his study of fairy tales and their universal importance in understanding childhood development. Analyzing a wide range of traditional stories, from the tales of Sindbad to "The Three Little Pigs," "Hansel and Gretel," and "The Sleeping Beauty," Bettelheim shows how the fantastical, sometimes cruel, but always deeply significant fairy tales can aid The child. A child has a lot of fears and does not feel confident. He knows he has to go through a lot of hardships as he gets older...
Being a Freudian psychologist, Bettelheim believes that a person's conscious mind takes the fairy tale for face value while the same person's unconscious mind understands the same fairy tale completely different.
In a fairy tale there is always some kind of happy ending and the child Builds up a good self confidence while overcoming all his fears during a fairy tale.
