Yes these correlations can be funny but when people are depressed they tend to believe in everything which can bedangerous correlations to those who easily believe!

Not politicians but just think of French industrials believing in silliness... I'm thinking of a few recent events: "avions renifleurs", "espionnage chez Renault", "de l'eau comme carburant dans les voitures"; probably far more such events thoughout the world and along history!
