Guy Fawkes night November 5th
Besides inning (Outre manche), Guy Fawkes is celebrated every November 5 by throwing (lançant) fireworks (feux d'artifice) and burning on pyres (buchers) puppets (pantins) in his likeness (effigie). The most famous member of the "Gunpowder Plot" ("Conspiration des poudres") (1605) is symbolized by a mask whose fame (notoriét ) has since spread beyond (dépassé) the borders to become the symbol of a new planetary revolt.
The mask has been commonplace at protest.

November 5th is indeed Guy Fawkes Night, also called Bonfire Night by the British. ... Guy Fawkes is the name of the conspirator who was arrested in the cellars of Parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder, ready to detonate them.

The Guy Fawkes mask is a stylised depiction of Guy Fawkes, the best-known member of the Gunpowder Plot, an attempt to blow up the House of Lords in London on 5 November 1605. The use of a mask on an effigy has long roots as part of Guy Fawkes Night celebrations.
A protester in an Anonymous mask.
Illustrator David Lloyd stylised a smiling face with red cheeks, a wide moustache upturned at both ends, and a thin vertical pointed beard; the design came to represent broad protest after it was used as a major plot element in V for Vendetta (1982–1989) and its 2005 film adaptation. After appearing in Web forums it became a well-known symbol for the online hacktivist group Anonymous, used in Project Chanology, the Occupy movement, Anonymous for the Voiceless, and other anti-establishment protests around the world. This has led to the popular name Anonymous mask.[1]

Bonfire Night
1. The American video pronounces the surname more like Guy Fox whereas I think most English people say Guy Forks. ( Well I do. )
2. There used to be the tradition that young children would sit in the street in shopping areas next to their dummy which they were going to burn and basically beg saying " Penny for the Guy ". However, fireworks are now so expensive you would need many many pennies to buy a single firework. This tradition has therefore almost completely died out.
3. As fireworks are so expensive families combine with other families to have a fireworks party but more and more people pay to go to larger organised displays, normally held for charity.
4. While the correct date is November 5th it can spread over weekends much to the annoyance of pet owners as their pets are distressed by all the loud bangs. Also the Indian festival of Divali is held on a moveable date around this time and the people celebrating this let off fireworks too.
5. I have also heard ( or not heard ! ) that for the first time because of the nuisance to animals and very young children there are now silent firework displays. johnB.

Thank you very much john for adding these details that I didn't know. I put a video for the children because I thought it would be easier for our visitors. Unfortunately the accent was American !

Anonymous is a hacktivist movement, particularly on the Internet. The name of this collective is considered a catch-all word for members of certain communities of Internet users acting anonymously for a particular purpose (usually to defend freedom of expression)

Guy Fawkes
I have just had to look this up as I am sure most people make this mistake and use the words Great Britain and U.K. interchangeably. We are very slack in this as in our use of language! Of course, to some people this is a matter of very great importance.
Great Britain and Northern Ireland - where Great Britain is the larger land mass.
The United Kingdom comprises England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Metro News makes the mistake of " providence " instead of " province ".
To note this I must be in a miserable mood this morning - like the weather! johnB.
