What Will Cars Become?
Hi everyone,
Alphonse Eugène Beau aka Beau de Rochas originated the principle of the four-stroke internal-combustion engine. He published hsi results in 1861 (or on Jan 16, 1862??), a year after Christian Reithmann was granted a patent in Germany and 16 years before Nicolaus Otto obtained his patent.
Cars were manufactured after these works.
Some majors of big cities are thinking of getting rid of cars, or in a first stage limiting permitted areas, or reducing speed to 30km/h, forbidding traffic on specific days (or definitively), etc.
City Architects are thinking of huge parking lots around cities with public means of conveyance only inside them, and cars used between towns.
Pros? Cons?
Advantages? Drawbacks?
Will cars disappear from cities soon?

Re: What Will Cars Become?
I think there are three problems about cars in big cities : traffic jams, pollution and noise. Electric cars solve the two last problems but don't solve the first. And what about this whole electricity. It can have impact on inhabitants health. So the development of public transport is unavoidable, to my mind. Or parkings at the frontier of big towns, but it could occur traffic jams too. Or else we could imitate Germany : they settle a lot of industries and jobs in the country.

Hi Remy,
Thanks for your words and interest.
I do agree on what you wrote above.
Noise can also be seen as a kind of pollution.
To the 3 problems you pointed out, we could add danger/insecurity as cars cause accidents and human victims as well as invivility.
> Or parkings at the frontier of big towns, but it could occur traffic jams too.
The area at the outskirts of cities is much spacious and won't cause as much traffic jam as in the very center of cities.
Do you like your car? or do you use it only when you absolutely need it?

Hi Remy, Gerard, everyone.
We all know that cars pollute (Apart from electric ones of course but they are not completely finalized) You can go without a car only when the town you live in is well organized. In Paris it's possible because o the tube. In Calais it is not

Re: What Will Cars Become?
Hi Muriel, hi everyone,
It takes time but I tend to walk. I walk daily as a physical exercise but also to go to hypermarkets.
I purchased my present car a bit more than 3 years ago and the counter says less than 6,000 kilometers.
I will go to the mountains soon and will take a train rather than my car...

Hi Gérard.
There are lots of good reasons to travel by train. You can relax and read on the train. you don't have to look for car park which is very expensive. My daugher will be pleased about your words because she works for SNCF

Re: What Will Cars Become?
Muriel,
There're lots of points to improvesuch as electricity to be able to use my computer but I'll put up with.
My grandaughter and her parents will be going by car but they have gears to transport. I hesitated but going by train will allow me to arrive earlier and prepare their arriving at the ski resort.
