Re: TINA's Passed Away!
I knew that she had died to-day and I checked on Google to be sure that Tina was her.

So I'm not the only one to give her this name...

Re: TINA's Passed Away!
It is sad to read such rejoicing about her death. I know that the iron lady was awfully loved and awfully hated but she doen't deserve that.

No she doesn't deserve hatred.
It was very harsh for the Brits but the UK was in a very bad situation (like France today) and Maggie succeeded in fixing things. The Brits have to say thanks to her.

Re: TINA's Passed Away!
"Did Margaret Thatcher transform Britain's economy for better or worse?
Supporters say she saved the UK; detractors say she made it unbalanced and unequal. The truth is somewhere in between"
I like that title from the Guardian. Extremes are never popular in politics.
Poor Iron Lady ! Devoting her life and ruining her health for her country
I used to give my students a good example of phrasal verb, imitating M.Thatcher :
"We will never give in"...

Re: TINA's Passed Away!
Hi Guilaine, hi everyone,
As for me, I'd say she did what had to be done when she was heading the country. The Prime Ministers who followed her should have changed politics according to the new situations in the UK and in the world.
UK was in very bad condition (like France nowadays), Maggie gave the right medecine.
She left Downing St. pointing out the situation had been improved after her 3 terms).
After solutions applied by her, and the situation pretty fine, politics had to be changed (probably not by her) but it was not and the gaps in the British society increased.
Not bad for one person, many people don't perform a hundredth.
When I met this one for the 1st time ("Don't give in"), it was in Toronto, on a banner hold by demonstrators, asking the Prime Minister not to stop fighting in order to keep the hospital unchanged (in 1997).
I asked our inhabitant-of-Quebec guides but none could give me the exact meaning.
Yes, in between.Guilaine a écrit:"Did Margaret Thatcher transform Britain's economy for better or worse?

She also gained fame throughout the world, and in history, and earned money, and was ennobled by the Queen.I like that title from the Guardian. Extremes are never popular in politics.
