OK Gérard, I understand perfectly what you mean. Anyway in certain situations intelligence makes things easier, i mean pragmatic intelligence which helps you in every day routine. (For me very complex solutions for a complicated result is not intelligence:D) Intelligent people have a simple mind and clear view-point.
For instance tool use often requires pragmatic intelligence and it makes things easier. You have to be intelligent to invent the good ones.

Of course it's understandable and would be said by natives. However according to me, it's not perfectly correct.
You began your sentence by an indirect speech, then you went on with an interrogative pattern.
I think it would have been better with:
- either "I wonder Gérard: how many "again" do you have to count ?"
- or "I wonder Gérard, how many "again" you'll have to count" (no question mark)
