Ernest Pignon-Ernest in Lille

Next week i saw in the « Musée des Beaux Arts » in Lille the exhibition called « Focus Mémoire du Corps » , works of Ernest-Pignon-Ernest.
Ernest-Pignon-Ernest is the pseudonym of Ernest Pignon, french situationist artist born in Nice in 1942. With Daniel Buren (we can remember his highly controversial art installation « les deux plateaux » since known as the « Colonnes de Buren » located in the inner courtyard of the Palais Royal in Paris) and Gérard Zlotykamien (in the 70’s he painted ghostly silhouettes on the walls of the big construction site of the Halles in Paris) he created the urban art.
For this exhibition Ernest Pignon accepted to work inside a museum, proposal that he usually refuses ; for him art must be in the town, at the corner of the street . Inside the collection of the museum he chose four masterpieces (Luca Penni (1500-1556), Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), Jan Lieven (1607-1674) and Théodule Ribot (1823-1891) and drawed wonderfull bodies. He really managed to depict the velvet of the skin, the muscles and tendons under it, the movements of the clothes on the body ( draperies) with such a lively précision that these drawings are as impressive as statues .
This exhibition can still be seen freely until the 2nd of september .

I won't go to the exhibition as it's rather far from my home.

Regarding art in the Streets, I don't know if I made a mistake but for my first visiting Florence in the early 60s, I was marveled at the statues at the corners of the Streets: I thought they were genuine ones, was I wrong?

The UK has become the world's largest outdoor art gallery this summer(From august tenth to 25th) billboards and bus stops round the country are now covered with reproductions of British art work.
I think that the idea is great ! People who would not traditionnally visit art galleries are in that way put in contact with art.
