Re: Children's games
Muriel,
Try to ask them or find more about "Playground games and songs" and "Singing games" the names are funny and the lyrics are very nice (looking like nursery rhymes or counting rhymes); English speaking people have good things.

I'm impressed when I hear Krystyna... e.g. stories around each finger.

Re: Children's games
Hi Muriel,
Krystyna is about to "babysit" a girl of 4 and a baby to be born this month. She spent a few hours with the 4 year girl lately and she is enthusiastic as the young girl is very keen on learning English; as far as I understood, she is very clever and already speaks French, understands Portuguese and maybe a bit of Arabic.
As I wrote it above, and as you know, EMTs love words: they have lots of cute songs, and stories for children, I think more than the French. I can write this after what Krystyna says and also after my niece (a New Zealander) who often refers to childish songs or sayings, even with her adult friends.

Re: Children's games

Yes, so I think.
If I refer to my early years as a pupil or in my family, if I refer to my own children; my ex-wife knew many nursery rhymes.
I know French school masters use more rhymes than when I was a kid but it's far less than in English speaking societies (US, UK, NZ, Oz, etc.)
Again, Krystyna tells lots of stories around the 10 fingers of the hands playing and talking to one another. I think there's one (maybe a few) in French but I don't remember (less known than in English).
EMT pupils also have more sayings. Lots of animals have cute small names like Donald Duck, like Teddy Bear... same for a frog, for a cat, etc. (that usually rhyme). Krystyna often asks me about such couples in French but I am unable to say (I think there are recent such couples in French thanks to Dorothée, Chantal Goya and the collection of new stories for children)
Similarly, especially in Australia, there are lots of expressions that are associated with funny endings such as "easy peasy", "Oky Docky" (Okey Dockey)... no special meanings, just funny winks.
These childish songs/rhymes, these expressions for adults are very used in the English culture.
~~ edit
Something that came to my mind regarding funniy expressions that don't mean much but add kinda wink to the speech:
- See you later, alligator, after awhile, crocodile
- Bye-bye, butterfly
- Give a hug, ladybug
- Toodle-ee-oo, kangaroo
- See you soon, raccoon
- etc.
LOL Yes usually English speaking people make things short but...
~~~~ edit edit
- Time to go, buffalo
- Can’t stay, blue jay
- Mañana, iguana
- The end, my friend!
Round and Round the Garden
Do the actions as you say the rhyme.
Round and round the garden, like a Teddy Bear.
Trace finger in a circle around child's palm
One step, two step
Walk your fingers up child's arm
Tickle you under there!
Tickle under chin, under arm or tummy
what about that one ?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Little_Piggy
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Little_Piggy
Finger play[edit]
"... This little piggy had roast beef..."
The rhyme is usually counted out on an infant or toddler's toes, each line corresponding to a different toe, usually starting with the big toe and ending with the little toe. A foot tickle is usually added during the "Wee...all the way home" section of the last line.[citation needed] The rhyme can also be seen as a counting rhyme, although the number of each toe (from 1 for the big toe to 5 for the little toe) is never stated.[citation needed]
Re: Children's games
No Muriel, I don't know them.... I guess there're far more nursery rhymes than in French and people remember all life long.
In addition to providing happy memories, it helps teaching babies.
At school, English speaking countries use repetitions on singing "rules"... similar in lots of other countries where students repeat loudly.
