In 1900, the average life expectancy was 49. Today, thanks to advancements in medicine, health care and technology and improved personal lifestyle choices, we all have the very real possibility of two or even three decades of active life beyond what is considered normal retirement age. Our post-retirement years can actually be longer than the years we spent working and building careers.
