However, it's sometimes a bad idea to keep appliances much longer.
An example is water-heater.
To date, it can last about 10 years.
Not a good plan to wait hoping to save a few months:
- you risk flooding ie issues with the carpet, the walls... maybe flooding into the apartment below if you live in a condo... think of the insurance co but they won't be happy
- technics evolve and an uptodate water-heater will need less energy
- definitely not worth trying to save a few days/months, after 10 years, it's better to anticipate the change as the chances to get flooding increases.
The example can be given for other appliances that benefit from energy-consuming progress: fridge, dishwasher, dryer, etc.
