When we go abroad, it is very useful to know that tiny word.It shows respect to the people we meet.

Muriel, very useful indeed but it has to be checked as, as far as I understand, in Polish, "witaj" means welcome rather than hi (hi is cześć).
The "Moin" for German stuns me... "'Morg'n"???

Yes Gérard. What you have written shows that literal translation is no good. It is important to concentrate on the meaning.
in Polish, "witaj" means welcome rather than hi
