The hippy movement has a huge influence today. In the late 1960s and early 70s, hippies were young people who hoped to change the world. They were anti-capitalists and pacifists. They cared about the planet and warned that we were destroying the environment. San Francisco was the capital of the hippie movement and the place where tens of thousands gathered in 1967 for what they called the summer of love. Sadly many found only homelessness, drugs and female exploitation diguised as sexual liberation. By the mid-1970s the hippie dream was dead. it rose again with the engineers of Silicon valley who were passionate about ressource-sharing and free exchange;  Today we also reject consumerism because we believe that the most important thing is to preserve nature. What's the point of economic growth and development if  we destroy the planet?
