Thanks Gérard, it's very interesting ! I didn't know that to infer from meant to "reach a conclusion from something"

Not exactly Muriel. The definition you wrote is right but incomplete.
For me, "infer" is the opposite of "deduce" (which also has this same definition).
For me "to infer" means: to find out the cause, the origine wheras "to deduce" is to guess the consequence.

Common Ways to Avoid the Word "VERY"
ENGLISHCONVERSATIONS.NET

This list is useful but only shows 2 degrees.
English language is very rich (a bit too much sometimes).
For every adjective, learn at least 2 degrees but also at least the opposite with at least 2 degrees.
If you pretend to be fluent, you need to master a range of words depending on the degrees you want to express; using "very", using "not" don't show fluency but a poor vocabulary.
OK that would be enough to be understood but it's pidgin English!

Compound Words in English
ENGLISHCONVERSATIONS.NET

A compound word is one new word corresponding to merging 2 initial ones.
A similar result -which is not a "compound word"- is a hyphen/dash between the 2 words.
Another similar result -which is not a "compound word"- is a space between the 2 words.
The 3 possible patterns depend on several points: region, time... in the beginning we've got the space- or the hyphen-pattern, then depending on the region -Americans easily use the merged pattern- the tendency leads to the compound word; in a further step people compltely forget the origin.

I don't agree with all of the examples in the list: a few "compoundwords" don't use a second word but a suffix eg friendship (nothing to do with a boat), others are dubious eg butterfly, carpet scratch .
