Re: Interesting idioms
I don't understand what you mean Muriel.MurielB a écrit:... Thanks Gérard for showing us the English table setting. We note that forks and knifes are turned over (compared the French table setting)
In France, aren't knives and spoon on the right and forks on the left?
As far as I know the teaspoon is not at this location: our teaspoon is not on the table, is it? If it were it would be with dessert spoon and cake fork.
Our glasses are not in these positions: they are at the head of the plate; with a card, they are behind the card.

Re: Interesting idioms

As far as I know, in France, forks and spoons can be facing up or down but facing up can be considered as aggressive.MurielB a écrit:Gérard I mean that in France forks and spoons are facîg down while in England they are facing up.

Re: Interesting idioms
Similarly, "camping" is not the English word used for the location, only the activity.MurielB a écrit:Hi Gérard,Everyone !

- "campsite" in the UK

Same thing for "parking".
How do you want that the French speak a correct En language when they imagine fake words?

Tools Vocabulary

There's a couple of words that surprises me:
- what they call "pin" is a nail for me; never seen "pin" in this contecxt
- what they call "bolt" is a screw for me; never seen "bolt" in this contecxt; a bolt is a screw+nut - in French, people often mistake "boulon" for "écrou" (in the example, the confusion is between "bolt/boulon" and "screw/vis").
