Both are applicable.
I understand the picture refers to words we cannot spell; a good advice is to use a similar word or a periphrase when you don't know a word in a foreign language.

However, the picture is supposed to be a joke so we've to understand something like say anything else when you have to correctly write a word.

According to George Gershwin, life is like jazz: better to improvise; other people would say life is the opposite: better to organize everything, be prepared to the situation to come instead of discovering at the last moment.
I'm not surprised that improvisation is a second nature for Gershwin (easy for him as he is used to changing environments).
