How to be happy
According to Freud and the psychoanalysts If you want to live happily, you have to free yourself from the past and live in the present. Not only though ! You also have to remember your past in order to forget !
http://www.apsa.org/About_Psychoanalysis.aspxThe psychoanalytic framework stresses the importance of understanding:
that each individual is unique,
that there are factors outside of a person's awareness (unconscious thoughts, feelings and experiences) which influence his or her thoughts and actions,
that the past shapes the present
that human beings are always engaged in the process of development throughout their lives.

Muriel,
Thanks so much for taking care of us
Psychoanalysis is something powerful that has to be used in moderation (such as alcohol, medecine, and the like), no?

As I do want you to be happy, I have another advice. Unless it is absolutely necessary to have a professional help, it is better to sort out past things yourself than go to a psychotherapist. It might be good for his purse, not for yours
