Hi Muriel,
I guess the numerous pictures I post tend to show the French are conventional, formatted, similar (I'd say they look obedient) whereas American and British are encouraged to be themselves.
Weird, no? We think the French are revolutionaries... I'm afraid bad boys are rather American/British, no?
What do you think?

I agree that the French society is more rigid than the Anglosaxon one. In France, for instance, you need to be holder of a certain diploma if you want to work in a certain sector. There is a more flexible approach in the Anglo saxon countries. You can change and move towards sectors you have not studied before. Your personnality is more important than your diploma. My daughter was in New York during the subprime crisis. She saw people getting the sack selling their houses and starting again rapidly. American people are on the move of course.
when you compare the French language with the English language you can see that rigididy. English is more concrete.
"Dress rehearsal", "way station" "unseat"are more picturesque than "répétition générale" "Arrêt intermédiaire" and "invalider"
Of course the language represents the people who speak that language.

Hi Muriel,
> "Dress rehearsal"
I guess the French casual equivalent term is "La coututière", often used.
