I also like "to give in".
I met this phrasal verb for the first time in Toronto: there was a demonstration and a banner asked the mayor not to give in regarding a local hospital the Governor of the Province wanted to close.
I asked the Quebeckers who guided us but never had a response (that's why I easily remembered it ).

When  we tried to translate "donner sa langue au chat" into English, you suggested "to give in". Do you remember ?

I don't remember Muriel but giv in is a good translation according to the Collins dictionary and Word-Reference.
