I agree that it is no good keeping rereading the last chapter of your life when you start a new one. Anyway keeping that last chapter in your mind to avoid making the same mistakes is good isn't it ?

However I read the sentence differently. For me, the text rather states that if you want to get a new life (improve your life), you must go ahead and stop behaving like in the past.

Yes if you want to go ahead you have to behave differently while taking care not to regress when you behave differently. affraid
