I find this experience from the 1950s very interesting. Harry Harlow conducted an experiment on baby monkeys. They were taken from their mothers and given either a "mother" made of wire or a soft, comfortable "mother" made of terry cloth. In some cases the wire mother had food, in others the soft, comfortable mother. The study assumed that the monkeys would turn to the "mother" that had food. But this was not the case. Food or not, the monkeys much preferred the mother they could cuddle.
