Movie: "A serious man "by the Cohen brothers
The story takes place in the Twin Cities in 1967 where a Jewish professor Larry Gopnik lives with his troubled family. His son Danny habitually smokes marijuana. His wife Judith wants divorce so she can be with a family friend . His daughter Sarah steals money from her father to get a nose operation, and his brother Arthur has been crashing on their couch for several months . At Judith and Sy's insistence, Larry and Arthur move to a nearby motel, after which Judith empties their joint financial accounts, leaving Larry penniless. One of Larry's students, Clive, claims his exams are unfair. after he leaves, Larry finds an envelope stuffed with thousands of dollars, and is furious that Clive would try to bribe him. The committee has received anonymous defamatory letters about him. Soon after, Sy is killed in a car accident and it's revealed that he was penniless leaving Larry with Sy's funeral expenses.
Judith insists that Larry seeks advice from three rabbis to cope with his troubles. None of the 3 rabbis gives good advice only platitudes( Of course they are rabbis). At the end because he is a serious man God helps him and all his problems are resolved.
What i found funny is entering in a jewish world where the characters are stereotypes as in a Dickens'novel.

Joel and Ethan Coen do good movies every 2 times: The Big Lebowski (dreadfull), O'Brother (an enchantment of G Clooney), Intolerable Cruelty (bad trip), Ladykillers (nice with Tom Hanks), No Country for Old Men (boring), Burn After Reading (very funny)...
So the next one shout be like a bullshit. I never seen "A Serious Man" but I expect the worth!
I'll wait the next one "Hail Caesar", forecast in 2011
