In English, a bit over 1 is plural whereas in French, under 2 is a singular.

> What i like most are the earrings !
Would have bet Smile

Handkerchief becomes rare nowadays. People rather say "hankie" (I don't know about the spelling but the pronunciation is that Smile )
Nowadays, people rather use "paper handkerchiefs" but they rather call them "tissues"; however, "tissue paper" correspond to the French "papier de soie".
"Pocket handkerchief" is the French "pochette".

Thanks for your message Muriel.
I'm too lazy to look for the words on Internet... I knew you would do it LOL
Endings -ie, -y -ey all can be used depending on the regions (we also find -a).

From what you have written Gérard, I don't know the verb to exude
v. ex·ud·e
v.intr.
To ooze forth.
v.tr.
1. To discharge or emit (a liquid or gas, for example) gradually.
2. To exhibit in abundance: a face that exuded self-satisfaction.

Muriel,
I frown when I see such a list of synonyms... I'm skeptical as for me -as you know-, there are never/no true synonyms scratch
For me, the list you gave provides words of a similar domain but not synonyms.
There are differences between them all.
In French "inférer" is the opposite of "déduire" and it's similar (for once) in English: to infer is in the direction of the source, the origin while to deduce, to conclude, to imply are  in the direction of the consequences.

Thanks Gérard, it's exactly what I wanted to know because I thought that "to infer" was "to deduce"
