How to Learn Phrasal Verbs Easily
FLUENTLAND.COM
These phrasal verbs are must-know ones.
The particle ("postposition") is not a preposition ie it's not necessary to have a complement, the particle is still kept.
Phrasal verbs are more and more used in American... and tho' less, more and more in British Engish as well.
Phrasal verbs are difficult to learn for the French as we guess there's no ligic; however, there are a efw guidelines.
It is very important to notice the difference between "To pass out"=>to faint and "To pass away"=>To die

Gérard the origin of that idiom is very amazing.
People used to believe that in times of emotional upheaval, stress, etc., a person's soul could separate from his body. You could be "beside yourself." That would result in the need to "pull yourself together."

Not sure it is named "soul" but in Yoga documents, people can read about the soul going away to wander about when they are sleeping and this "soul" comes back into the body when they wake up. If they are suddenly woken up, the soul can't come back in good conditions and they are in a bad mood or say they feel lousy: the solution is to go back to sleep again and wake up correctly, just after a couple of minutes.

Very nice story ! I have always been fascinated by the soul going away and coming back. Unfortunately i have never been able to do it !

Re: Interesting idioms
In yoga, we definitely don't call it "soul" (religious term) but I can't remember the word in use.
