To me, "back" is not the French "dos" but "support"
though not found in my dictionary.
Anyone to confirm?
When it comes to #privacy and #security, which companies have your back? In its new report, the Electronic Frontier Foundation highlights how companies manage and protect your data. Featuring the likes of Amazon, Apple, Google, Facebook and more, the report encourages these companies to take a stand in protecting their members’ data and to educate the public on how privacy policies affect them. "Who has your back ? "
According to my dictionary :
To back : encourage - efforts, person, venture (: encourager, appuyer, soutenir)
- candidate, bill (: soutenir)
Who has your back = who/m do you favour with your support ?

Thanks for your confirmation Ghislaine.
Your dictionary is better than mine.
I've got several paper English-only dictionary but I'm too lazzy to open them; I only use my computerized one.
I learned this meaning of "back" or rather "back up" a bit like a baby with their mother speaking with American colleages.
"Backup" is the word (and verb) used when we save data from our computer to a different and separate media.
"Back-up" is also the word we use for a person who helps and will replace an employee when they are on vacation (kind of deputy).

Hello Ghislaine,
Your words make me realise "backup" has to be written in one word.
Effectively, my bilingual dictionay (Hachette-Oxford) displays:

The link leads to -> What Career Should You Actually Have?
Well.
I post this -found on Facebook- tho it might appear very rude.
"Well tickle my fanny with a feather - who would have thunk!"
Many things to say about this line:
- it appears rude; it's not
- English can be very weird as for example this sentence means
something completely different than what your dictionary will tell you
- so, it's an expression used in a very casual way
- also consider this "thunk", did you ever meet this word?
Again, it's a weird word used in casual speech
In fact, "thunk", here, is the past participle of "to think"
weird hey?
... just a wink to friends of primary school!
Enjoy!
