Hi Gérard,
You write so much that I haven't got the time to catch up with you !
Let's go back to the expressions with nip:
Thank you for letting us know about them.
I hope I will remember.
By the way, did you notice somewhere (above) the spelling : suttle. It should be subtle, shouldn't it ?

Hi Guilaine,
Yes of course, the correct spelling is "subtle". I'm going to search and fix. Thanks.Guilaine a écrit:...

Grammarly
Complements ≠ compliments.
A shirt complements your eyes (goes well with them), while a person compliments your eyes (tells you something nice about your eyes).

Gérard there is a problem because Using two negatives turns the thought or sentence into a positive one.

Hi Muriel,
"Are a no-no" means that it is not permitted to use double negatives.
The English language absolutely forbids double negatives (like French language which forbids pleonasms).
However, we can find Americans using them e.g. "I don't love you no more" (lyrics of a jazz song) instead of "I don't love you any more".

Spelling and punctuation is the difference between ensuring the health of a child and becoming the evil witch in Hansel and Gretel.
