"Thingy" is used in cases where you are not sure what the proper name for something really is

I often use it as I'm a bit lazy and am influenced by Krystyna who, as any Australian, keeps using words ending with the sound "y" (spelled y or ie), most of the time to shorten words that are more than 2 syllables.
