Mouettes and Sea ou Seagulls ? On verra Empty Mouettes and Sea ou Seagulls ? On verra

Message  yannS Lun 15 Nov - 14:00

You may well have seen bits of chat about a project aiming to encourage English people to read in French and French people to read in English.
Well it's now rolling. We had a little meeting in Calais at the end of October. The French won 5-3, but one of their players lives in Hastings. We agreed that the main idea was to meet regularly to talk about the books we've chosen, alternately in Calais and Hastings. Everything in France to be 100% in French and vice versa in Hastings.
We agreed to use the French polyglotte website. And to support new writers, small editors, publishers and independant booksellers. In bot countries. So it goes without saying ( so I'll say it) that English readers will buy their books in France and vice versa for French readers. There'll be monthy meetings..... December 11th in Hastings + Matin brun by Franck Pavloff. ( 11h00 at Hastings Town Hall ) Then in January we'll be at the Entre les Lignes festival in Calais. And so on. Want to join ? end one of us a message either here or to crossborder.email@gmail.com the project is called Mouettes and Sea

I agree with you, Victoria we should carry on talking about the books on the forum. We live far away from each other and it will be easier Cool

Reading is OK. Writing too. BUT the heart of any language is the SPOKEN FORM.
However, if you live in Falmouth, Baigts de Béarn or Villanova y La Geltru it's a bit hard, I admit, to pop across to Calais or Hastings every 10 minutes !
We've already got Mouettes and Sea members in different parts of England and France. They're going to send us email ( or handwritten) comments about our 2 December books.........Animal Farm for those who want to be involved just in English.
...............................Matin brun for those who want to be involved in French.
And both, for those who can manage well in French and English.
Let me have any written contributions ( here AND to crossborder.email@gmail.com ) before December 8th so we can print them and present them at our meetings.
Some of us will be in Calais on November 27th and on December 10 should anybody want to continue this conversation face to face in English, French or Spanish.

I agree with you, Yann the language spoken form is important (That's the reason why on top of a polyglot cafe on the net we have true cafes). I think also that to build a good relationship with people we have to see them face to face from time to time. Anyway, it will be very good to write on the forum about the books for the people who can't pop across every 10 minutes but who want to be part of your project. Very Happy

Yes, I'm interested. Ready to read the books and talk/write about them, either in English or French.
Most probably in Calais, but why not also in Hastings in spring or in summer... I have once spent two weeks in Hastings for a training course for foreign students and the weather was horrible, as wet and windy as in Calais on stormy days.
