If something DOESN'T SIT WELL with you, you find it hard to accept. I see examples of this idiom from many countries, but none from Britain. Rutland Herald (Vermont, USA): <<Johnson said the review of security procedures will include a look at when DCF workers conduct field visits, and said case workers are advised to let someone know where they are going and when they expect to return.
“Sometimes, we ask law enforcement to join them, but it’s all case-by-case specific. ... “It’s important to remember that, as horrific as it was, it was an isolated incident.”
That phrase — “isolated incident” — doesn’t sit well with Howard.
“Our members would say they experience threats every day and they don’t feel like this should be treated like an isolated incident that won’t happen again,” Howard said. >>

I don't understand what you mean Muriel.

~~

when pigs fly → quand les poules auront des dents , aux calendes grecques , à la Saint Glinglin , la semaine des quatre jeudis , à Pâques ou à la Trinité

when pigs fly → a cold day in Hell; on a month of Sundays; when Hell freezes over; when it's Christmas in July; until the cows come home

So you wanted to write something like "when pigs fly can also be said: when pigs have wings", right?

Haha!
If you thoroughly consider sayings and proverbs, you will realize that they say all the whole range of truthness so that there's something for everyone in the society.

> "Absence makes the heart grow fonder."... translated by "Loin des yeux, près du cœur"... "Loin des yeux, loin du cœur"
I would rather translate "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" in "L'absence rend le coeur plus affectueux/tendre".
When you are far from the beautiful region of northern France don't you miss the nice gray sky, chilly, revitalizing sea and the cool weather compared with the bloody hot sun of the Riviera? Wink You get to love it more and more.

Now speaking about love, far from the beloved mate, some people will miss them and promise to be more tender, to liss during hours while others will take advantage to try something else.
