Re: English Idioms2
FULL-COURT PRESS: a very aggressive effort. This idiom comes from basketball, where a full-court press is a defensive attack in which the team with the ball is harassed from one end of the court to the other. Human Rights Watch: <<The document cites the alarmingly high prevalence (nearly 30% in some studies) of HIV among transgender women in the U.S., and urges addressing violence against transgender women "by research and programmatic activities." But this falls far short of the full-court press that is needed for a community in crisis; facing high rates of poverty, homelessness and every other social determinant associated with HIV risk; and experiencing more homicides through mid-August 2015 than in all of 2014.>>

Ok Florent, I didn't know that quote. When we ask for something, it is important to be happy with what we get

ANY WAY YOU SLICE IT: no matter how you look at it, from any perspective. I think this is North American. The Globe and Mail (Toronto): <<Any way you slice it, profit growth and positive earnings surprises were disappointing among TSX stocks in the second quarter.>>

Re: English Idioms2
Not really an idiom, but an odd little construction that often puzzles students: UP AND LEAVE. Consider this passage from alphar.com. What does "up and leave" mean, and how is it different from just "leave"? <<Apple Music executive Ian Rogers has resigned from Apple just two months after the launch of its online music-streaming and radio service. .., Another point of discussion is what’s caused Rogers to up and leave Music so suddenly, and how bad could it have been for him to completely leave the industry after 20 years?>> "Up and leave" is informal, and it suggests that the event was sudden or unexpected. You can also use "up and ..." with other verbs, but "leave" is most common.
