what is a wierdo ?

1. A person who is considered strange to other people. This person may do strange things, so this person can be considered a "weirdo".
2. A non-comformist who does not follow trends or a subculture. A true 'weirdo' will juat do what they feel, and can get along with most people. This person does not actually conform to a stereotype and shouldn't be labled.

There's the weight of the French society: a degree is very important.

Now, if it were balck or white, if it were mental health or grades, the response would be easy.

What if the head of the family fails regarding both mental health AND grades?

When a company aims efficiency, everyone has to be focused on the target, otherwise it won't work and the company could disapear among the bunch of competitors.
To be more precise: in the 1070s and fro a specific year, a company could compensate bad results from a branch with good results of another branch. Nowadays, accounting is very detailed and every subsidiary/branch has to be profitable otherwise lots of people (competitors, financial market, banks...) will point out the weakness. In addition, in many companies, results are analyzed and pointed out every day (every week/month for a branch).

So, -again- what if the head of a French family fails in both mental health and grades?
How about the grades in Japan and China?

Gérard I agree that we want our children and grand children to feel comfortable in their own skin
But...

He also points to British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and India's Mahatma Gandhi as major historical figures who thrived while having emotional issues.

I would only say that leaders are outside the norms and fortunately these outside the norm people exist otherwise it would be impossible to find people willing to govern us.

Muriel, no need to be a President or (let's) say famous to have responsabilities and stress. Executives in nowadays companies are very stressed and so are our farmers.
