I have highlighted in red the expressions we find in American songs or poetry like wanna, gotta, gonna etc I am not familiar with. That's the reason why I have to listen carefully to an American song to get the meaning !

"wanna, gotta, gonna" are just another spelling showing the pronunciation.
When they pronounce "want to", we can hear "wanna".

I can tell you that it's not specific to Americans, my nephrew and his British friends often write like this on Facebook and prolly worse in sms's.

Gérard I think I don't understand the language of young people ! Fortunately my grand children who are soon in their teens will teach it to me ! pirat

They regularly visit their other grand parents who are English and live in Manchester.

Traditions get lost. How will Pharmacists make with their illegible-label jars on top of the shelf (the jar especially designed for illegible prescriptions)? Razz
