Now that you point what I wrote, I'm hesitating wondering if I was right re Brits.MurielB a écrit:gerardM a écrit:Not exactly Muriel.MurielB a écrit:Do you think they behave like unfeeling robots ?
I guess the French are frightened by death and they are relieved to pick up traditional words and get rid of the chore.
NB - pronunciation of "chore"...
Gérard I didn't know that the brits could find the right words and didn't need formal condolences ! Tx for telling me.
Regarding Americans, I'm sure as I'm even embarrassed when I read them.
Regarding Brits, I didn't read condolences very often...

Re: Dawn French Fan Club 4
I publish this picture less for the fire pit idea but for "Yay" or "Nay".
I never saw the spelling "yay"... usually it's yea or yeah
-> yea and nay are used for political polls ("the yeas and the nays", "the nays have it!")
-> yeah is used informally
-> sometimes yea but more often, nay is used to insist (neaning of indeed, French "voire...", "je dirais même mieux...")

Hi Gérard
This is the expression I didn't know
Sales pitch=>Argumentaire de vente
This is the expression I didn't know
A sales pitch is a line of talk that attempts to persuade someone or something, with a planned sales presentation strategy of a product or service designed to initiate and close a sale of the product or service.
Sales pitch=>Argumentaire de vente

Muriel, in my mind "sales pitch" is pejorative.MurielB a écrit:Hi Gérard

- "sales point" is "argument de vente"
- "sales talk" is "argumentaire"
- "sales pitch" is "boniment (de vente)".
Could we check this please?

Re: Dawn French Fan Club 4
Yes Gérard "sales pitch" is pejorative and could be translated into French by boniments de vente.
talk or a way of talking that is intended to persuade you to buy something:

"talk or a way of talking that is intended to persuade you to buy something" doesn't show anything negative, does it?

Re: Dawn French Fan Club 4
Gérard When the salesman charms the customers with his smile and then talks in a way that they will buy a high margin product they may not need is dishonest. An honest salesman should help the customers to choose what they really need and pays attention to the fact that what they need has a good price-quality ratio.

Re: Dawn French Fan Club 4
I agree Muriel. However the French word "boniment" is negative; the French words "argument" and "argumentaire" are not.*
> Sales pitch=>Argumentaire de vente
What I point out is that words above.
"Sales pitch" is negative and can be translated into "boniment".
