Re: Interesting idioms
Gérard i knew that to break up was to separate or to be separated into pieces: She broke up a chocolate bar. The river ice finally broke up.
but i didn't know it was also to interrupt the uniformity or continuity of something.

Take another thorough look as "break up" is used thoughout a far wider range of meanings: from end up to desintegrate (including end a relationship/marriage or end the school week).
The expression "break it up!" means stop fighting.

Re: Interesting idioms
This idiom appears in the Christian Bible but is actually even older than that. It has a negative flavor and is often used to describe a spiral of revenge.

Re: Interesting idioms
TAKE vs. GET. That should be "take a seat" on the left. And in American English "make a decision" is much more common than "take a decision."
