Gérard the title "The catcher in the rye"puzzles me. I have read on the internet that it  is a symbol. The main characters longing to preserve the innocence of childhood. Am I right ?

There should be a comma after "clear" Muriel, but I don't understand what "write hard" means.

For me "write hard" means "concentrate on your writing" but I am not sure.
clear would mean "get rid of"

"Clear" is not a verb but an adverb, meaning clearly.
