Re: American English at State
The second graphic in our fall activities series is about "raking leaves." Do you have to rake leaves in your region?

As you were using the present perfect, I assumed Patrick was raking at 10:38pm (time of your message)MurielB a écrit:No Gérard, not at 10:38pm. Re: American English at State
Ok Gérard. which tense would you use to translate "En ce moment il ramasse les feuilles" In French it doesn't mean "right now"but in this period of the year ?

I understood what you meant but pretened not.
In English, "This is exactly what we are doing now !" can mean both "at this period of the year..." or "we're presently doing this".
"En ce moment il ramasse les feuilles" can also mean both "at this very time..." or "in this season...".

Re: American English at State
A proverb is a popular cultural saying that conveys an idea that many people in that culture believe to be true. Today, we're starting a new series with American proverbs. What proverbs exist in your culture? Maybe there are some similar ones in #AmericanEnglish.

Re: American English at State
Pumpkin souvenir is very nice for me. My father who passed away in 2004, used to have a pumpkin patch. His grand children had a sign with their names next to one of them. Every year there was the pumpkin competition and the child with the bigger pumpkin would be the winner. Of course all the children wanted to win and when there was no one round, they placed their signs next to the bigger one.

Don't feel sad about a small problem. Don't cry over spilled milk. Do you have a similar proverb in your culture? #AmericanEnglish
The comments speak about "small problems", I also read it meant Don't be upset about passed problems".

Re: American English at State
Yes we have that kind of proverb in French especially when we don't receive a letter we are waiting for. Anyway I personnaly can't stop thinking about the worst-case scenarios.
