Re: 2)English idioms
Hi Gérard
There are also
PUT ACROSS = communicate and idea or message
PUT THROUGH = connect (have contact) someone by phone
PUT TOWARDS = give or make a financial contribution
Problably there are a few more but it was nice revising them.

Re: 2)English idioms
Remember what I keep saying: there're never true synonyms (subtle meaning, specific context, etc)... but you've got no reason to trust me.
Let say the list is for beginners/intermediate students.
- small /= tiny
- sack /= bag
- listen /= hear
- mother /= mom (mom is American)
- ill /= sick
- etc

Re: 2)English idioms
To help you remember a few of the "up" phrasal verbs—there are lots of them. "Get up"—get out of bed. "Dress up"—dress well, put on fine clothes. "Show up"—be where you're supposed to be; keep an appointment. And when you're trying to learn phrasal verbs, never give up!
Wow! Very good example!

Hi Muriel,
Wedge?
Your explanation looks complicated. A wedge is (among other meanings) here a piece of metal that is used to get a tree-trunk separated.

Re: 2)English idioms
What does the idiom "borrow trouble" mean? It's not a terribly common expression, but it seems to be used all over the English-speaking world.

Hi Gérard, those expressions are very useful when we deal with English people. The problem is that they are so polite they never say "No"and it's very difficult to guess what they want !
