Gérard, sometimes it's the other way round. You understand a sound and you don't know how to write it

Muriel,
> Gérard, sometimes it's the other way round. You understand a sound and you don't know how to write it
It's more important to understand what you hear than to be able to write.
Many English people don't know how to write properly; however they are able to speak.
A French peson is generaly very good at English grammar, far better than English people are but it's not worth being good at grammar if you cannot be understood due to a wrong pronunciation.

Hi Muriel,
"Disorient" corresponds to a unpleasant feeling for "dépayser"; they don't use this verb for a positive meaning, instead they'd say something like "pleasant change of scenery".

Gérard I like autocorrect very much and I find it very useful. Unfortunately when I write on this forum there are only 2 languages : English and French.
Anyway i am happy when forum members point out the mistakes autocorrect has not found.
