Re: Internet English Resources - Grammarly.com 3
Just a quick reminder about were, we’re, and where
These near-homophones are often mistyped. For the record: “Were” is the simple past tense of the first person plural, second person singular and plural, …

Once again, don't be surprised.
English speaking people don't learn much grammar, or at least far less than French people.
EMTs speak
but most people write as they speak
so that there's much confusion.
This is good to the French:
if there's confusion, that means they pronounce similarly (or rather the differences are subtle, just a question of accent).
(remember that there's are lots of nuances in the sounds
where the French hear one single sound.
Here, the exampple is not good as
-even I- I can hear a difference between Were We're and Where.

Re: Internet English Resources - Grammarly.com 3
Like many non-rules, this one originates from Latin grammar. In informal, everyday writing, it's OK to boldy split those infinitives.
ESL TIP: Splitting an infinitive means putting an adjective or adverb between "to" and the verb. For example, consider the sentence "He wanted to see the birds." In very formal writing, you should not place a modifier between "to" and "see"; however, for casual use, it is perfectly acceptable to put a modifier between "to" and "see."
FORMAL: "He wanted to see the birds quickly."
CASUAL: "He wanted to quickly see the birds."
Note that the formal construction is also perfectly acceptable in casual writing.

Re: Internet English Resources - Grammarly.com 3
Muriel,
Don't worry about casual or formal.
Formal doesn't mean correct English.
Not many people speak formal English, not even in letters, not even the Queen (I was told she was very good at swearing )
English has 2 sorts of grammars: coming from Latin is effectively formal English.
Similarly, vocabulary has 2 sources: Latin or French and Saxon. Both families are still in use with slightly different meanings.
Doesn't it ring a bell (if I say: German")?
Again don't worry about formal English grammar: that will permit you to read old texts.
