Re: -= ESL Buzz =-
Muriel, I never use "cheers".MurielB a écrit:By the way, Gérard, do you think it is correct to put "cheers"at the end of a familiar letter ?
For me "cheers" is mainly used in the UK, hence my ban
"Cheers" is used as a casuel word in the States and in the UK for a toast and the "tone" in French is "à la vôtre/tienne".
"Cheers" is used in the UK (say in British English) on a casual tone to thank someone.
"Cheers" is used in British English on a casual tone with the meaning of good bye (French "salut !").
> put "cheers"at the end of a familiar letter ?
So my opinion: yes for a familiar letter; I prefer the series of "Regards" tho my favorite is "Take care".
