Re: American English at State
Muriel, I wouldn't consider flip as an adjective in flip side, but rather "flip side" as a compound word.
You are right, I can see flip can be an adjective; I thought "flippant" was the adjective... is flip the short form for flippant?

A few days ago, I learned the words "procurer" and "procuress"; fortunately I never made a mistake about this false cognate.

The term "buck" is very casual! You might say this to a close friend: "Hey, can you loan me two bucks?" #AmericanEnglish

Requests using the modal verb "would" are fairly formal. For instance, you might use "would" to request help from a superior at work. Have you ever done so? #AmericanEnglish

Do you ever have too much to do at work? How could you ask your colleagues for help? Try using the modal verb "will" with your co-workers. #AmericanEnglish
